Field Trip: Legoland Discovery Centre!
For their second field trip, Grade 3 students visited Legoland Discovery Centre on Friday, May 2nd, 2014 in relation to their Science unit on Structures. The morning was spent on a 'Tall Towers' workshop in which students worked in small groups to create the most sturdy structures. They then had fun testing the stability of their tall towers on earthquake tables. They learnt the importance of engineers, natural disasters and interlocking bases in connection to tall towers. The rest of the afternoon, students explored the various areas of Legoland including the kitchen, the Fire Academy, the Racers (build & test), the Miniland and rides. For many, this was their first time experiencing a 4D cinema where they felt rain, wind and snow as they watched the movie 'Spellbreakers.' Here's a look at our future engineers at work, Insha Allah!
Jazak Allah Khair to all the parent volunteers who accompanied us to the trip!

Social Studies Unit Project: Comparing Pioneer Life to Modern Times (Presentations)
Grade 3B students showed their knowledge and creativity through poster presentations that compared Pioneer life to the world today. Many students brought in hand made/bought props, posted materials and (hand created) 3D objects on their posters to enhance their presentation. One of our students, Muhammad Khan, showed real pioneer spirit by dressing up as a pioneer child and presented his material in an engaging story format! Thank you to the parents for their assistance on the projects. Excellent effort from everyone, Masha Allah!
Here's a sneak peek at the students' work and presentations. Enjoy seeing yourself and your fellow classmates present!

Field Trip: Black Creek Pioneer Village
Grade 3 students visited Black Creek Pioneer Village in relation to their Social Studies curriculum on April 10th, 2014. Their program was divided into 2 sections. In the first half, they had a chance to experience what it is like to be a student in a Pioneer school. The second half included a guided tour of the buildings at the site. We had the opportunity to visit an inn, the doctor's office, the General Store, the Tinsman's shop and the Town Hall. As you browse through the pictures with your child, be sure to ask them to compare their lives to the lives of the pioneer children.
